How to perform a proper maintenance of a chainsaw to do so that not to leave thee the first time, and that it is always safe to use.
The maintenance of your chainsaw of course depends on the brand, model and type of use you make of it (intensive or not). It is therefore always necessary to follow the procedures indicated on the specific instructions. Here you can still find a number of tips and practices that are good for any model and brand, which ensures that your chainsaw is not damaged and that it is always safe to use it.
Before carrying out any maintenance work turn off the machine, disconnect it from any energy source (in the case of electric chainsaw) and wearing of protective gloves.
Always check the chain tension
With the use of machinery, the chain tends to smollarsi and may even exit from the bar. This, as you can imagine, in addition to ruin the gears can be very risky for those who use the car and for those in the area. You must then control the membership from time to time (and definitely before every use) to avoid falling into this risk. But beware: even a chain too tight can damage the bar, usurandola and surriscaldandola.
The right degree of tension varies from model to model, but you can take as a way to limit the time in which you are able once again to "pinch" the chain in its lower part, so that it is down a little bit, even if with fatigue. In this way, you are assured that the chain is well-snug but not too tight.
Check that the chain is well sharpened
If the chain is well sharpened, the cutting will be inaccurate and wrong, and you will need to pressure to be able to cut the wood. You will understand that it is time to sharpen the chain when the cuttings are very fine and thin. You can do the sharpening for its own account, touching up the teeth of the chain by taking a series of necessary steps, but we always recommend that you contact a professional.
After several place greatly sharpener you will need to change the chain. In order to understand when the time has come, you can deal by watching the teeth when their length will be less than 4 mm, it is time to replace the chain.
Before each use, and at each stop for refuelling..

- check that the air filter is not blocked, and in case clean;
- check that the chain does not turn when the carburetor is at a minimum.

- inspect and clean the fuel filter maybe helping with a jet of compressed air and a screwdriver, or using a degreaser;
- rotates the bar on a weekly basis and lubricates the spool;
- check that there are no damage or wear in the vibration-damping system, in the rope of the starter, the clutch in the pinion (which still needs to be replaced every time you change the chain);
- check that all screws and bolts (except the screws of the carburetor) are not loose, and in the case riserrali;
- clean the fins of the cylinder, and the slits of the housing of the starter.
